Jesus taught Peter that, though the children of the King are exempt from taxes, He chose not to cause unnecessary offense. However, the Gospel itself is inherently offensive because it confronts sin and calls for repentance. While believers should avoid needless conflict, we must never water down the truth of the Gospel just to please people.
The transfiguration of Jesus before Peter, James, and John revealed His divine glory and authenticated His Messiahship. With Moses (representing the Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets) appearing alongside Him, God confirmed Jesus as His beloved Son, greater than all before Him. This is a powerful confirmation of what the Old Testament foretold. Now that we know Christ is the Anointed One, we must not keep quiet. Let the world know.
Jesus asked His disciples a defining question: “Who do you say I am?” Peter’s response, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” was more than just right, it was a divine revelation. In a world filled with conflicting opinions about Jesus, true understanding comes from God alone. This confession remains the foundation of our faith and the Church’s authority.
Jesus teaches that it is not external traditions that make us righteous, but the condition of our hearts. The Pharisees clung to their man-made rules while ignoring God’s commands. Are we doing the same, judging others while our own hearts remain unchecked? Let God’s Word, not empty rituals, guide your life.
The Pharisees kept asking Jesus for signs, yet they ignored the greatest one. His death and resurrection. Jesus teaches that a heart not filled with God becomes a home for evil. Let us not seek signs but seek the Saviour Himself. Faith in Christ, not miraculous proofs, is what brings lasting transformation.
When Jesus healed a demon-possessed man, the crowds were amazed, but the Pharisees accused Him of working by demonic power. Christ warned them, and us not to attribute the work of the Holy Spirit to evil. Words matter. Our speech reveals our heart. Let us be slow to speak and careful not to speak against the Spirit of God.
Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath, continues to show mercy even when opposed. Though the Pharisees plotted against Him, He withdrew and kept healing the sick, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah. His mission was clear: to bring justice, hope, and healing to the nations, not through noise or force, but with quiet strength and mercy.
When Jesus defended His disciples for plucking grain on the Sabbath, He reminded the Pharisees that mercy matters more than legalism. Christ is Lord of the Sabbath and God’s chosen servant through whom the nations will find hope. We are called to reflect His mercy, not just uphold tradition.
Jesus invites the weary and burdened to find true rest in Him, not in religion or effort, but in relationship. God reveals His kingdom to those who come like children, willing, humble, and teachable. Come and find rest for your soul.
God has invested so much in us, His Word, grace, miracles, and mercy. Yet, like the towns Jesus rebuked, many remain unrepentant. Don’t waste the divine investment in your life. Live in response to His grace.
