TEXT: MATHEW 12:1-14
TOPIC: JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH (I)
Christ faced a lot of opposition from the Jews, but this one bordered on His leadership.
It was the Sabbath, and the disciples decided to pluck some grains to satisfy their hunger. But the Pharisees considered reaping unlawful on the Sabbath.
They had replaced the spirit of the Law of Moses with endless rules and regulations that remained a constant source of disagreement between them and Jesus.
Jesus showed them that the spirit of the law was often more important than the letter of the law, especially regarding ceremonial observations.
The teachings here revealed that the purpose of His miracles and caring for the people was a means to fulfilling the Scriptures and show that He is the chosen of God.
Christ is God’s chosen servant, the beloved of God, and, as a result, nations will put their trust in Him.
QUESTION
Are you sometimes as legalistic like the Pharisees?
PRAYER
Help me, Oh Lord, to put my trust in You so that nations can see You through me and also put their trust in You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
