TEXT: MATTHEW 3:13-17
TOPIC: HAVE YOU BEEN BAPTISED?
Baptism simply means washing. It is one of the ordinances of the Church. It is only experienced by those who believe and profess faith in Jesus Christ. So it really means ‘to plunge’, ‘to dip’ or ‘to immerse’ under water.
It symbolizes our union with Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. This means that it is only meant for those that have put their faith and trust in Christ’s salvation.
So, John the Baptist expected Jesus to baptise him (vs. 14), but Jesus insisted on fulfilling all righteousness (vs. 15) in preparation for His ministry, which heaven also confirmed (vs. 16-17).
QUESTION
Have you been baptised and are you living a new life in Christ?
PRAYER
Lord God, thank You for the privilege of knowing You and being baptised in You. Help me to live that newness of life that follows baptism, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
