Today’s text, what did Jesus mean by His statement in verse 34?
Jesus was declaring that members who chose to believe and follow Him for the rest of their lives are set
apart for Him for the rest of their lives.
He makes it very clear that believers who are committed to Him must uphold values that are
quite different from those of their parents, relatives and siblings
who may not have accepted the salvation He offers.
In essence,
Jesus is teaching total commitment to Himself. It requires a lot of
courage to follow Christ because you could be isolated, hated and
even killed. But the benefits are immense.
