TEXT: MATTHEW 18:15-20
TOPIC: RESTORING HARMONY AMONG BELIEVERS
The issue here revolves around correcting an offending brother or sister.
The centre of Jesus’ teaching here is on interpersonal relationships.
The Christian community is charged with the responsibility of seeking out those who have gone astray, feel discouraged and lonely and have lost hope in life.
So, Christ outlines four major steps to restore harmony, unity and love amongst us.
a. Who should take the first step? Any of the two, which should be done privately “just between the two of you” (vs. 15b), so that you can give a chance for apologies and possible reconciliation.
b. Take one or two other brethren along with you (vs. 10).
c. If ‘a’ and ‘b’ above fail, then tell it to the church (vs. 17).
d. If he or she turns a deaf ear to the culpable reproof of the church, let them be regarded as a believer no longer but as a heathen and outcast.
QUESTION
What measures are you taking to restore an erring brother or sister back to the faith?
PRAYER
Help me, dear Lord, to stand in the gap and help in settling disputes among believers using the basic Biblical principles. Amen.
