TEXT: PSALM 9:11-20
TOPIC: GOD WILL NEVER FORGET THE POOR
Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) carried out a survey in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Initiative (OPHI) across the 36 states of Nigeria in 2022.
It revealed that 63% of Nigerians, representing 133 million people, are multidimensionally poor.
It also revealed that 65% of the poor, that is, 86 million people, live in the north while 35%, representing 47 million people, live in the south.
What is even more worrisome is that, according to the survey, the widening gap between the majority poor and the minority rich is largely exacerbated by political, religious and moral corruption in Nigeria. This means that the Church was also indicted.
The psalmist reminds his readers that God is not an absentee landlord who is helplessly watching and doing nothing.
The psalmist comforts us that God, who avenges blood, doesn’t ignore the cries of the afflicted and will never forget the needy.
The hope of the afflicted should never perish, as God will strike the corrupt and wicked with terror.
QUESTION
When God judges political, religious and moral corruption, will you come out clean?
PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive my sin of avarice and greed in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
