THURSDAY, 21 AUGUST, 2025.
TEXT: JOHN 6:41-51
TOPIC: THE FIRST OF THE SEVEN “I AM” OF JESUS.

John, the beloved apostle, introduces us to seven significant claims of Jesus, one of which is, “I am the Bread of life. The rest include the following:
– I am the Light of the world (John 8:12)
– I am the Gate (John 10:7, 9)
– I am the good Shepherd (John 10:11, 14)
– I am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25)
– I am the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6)
– I am the Vine (John 15:1, 5).

The synagogue leaders of Capernaum vented their feelings when they heard Jesus claiming to be the Bread of Life. They were incensed because it was obvious that Jesus claimed a heavenly origin, while they thought they knew His earthly origin. The interesting irony is that they thought they knew who Jesus’ father was but chose to ignore His virgin conception (Matthew 1:18-25).

In our world today, many claim to know Jesus but decide to ignore the kernel of His outstanding claims: His heavenly origin, virgin birth, Light of the world, Bread of Life, the Way, the Truth and the Life, the Resurrection, etc.
