TEXT: JOHN 7:45-53.
THE TEMPLE GUARD REFUSED TO BE RECRUITED.
The confrontational exchange at the festival of the Tabernacle led to the first organised stiff competition from the religious authorities. The religious leaders could not hide their displeasure and disappointment and resorted to insult and mockery. They expressed their disappointment at the temple guards who spoke well of Jesus, this behaving like the naive and deceived crowd.
The Pharisees referred to them dismissively as this mob that knows nothing of the law, a misled and thus cursed Nicodemus, one of them, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish Supreme Council ( Sanhedrin), who is a secret admirer and disciple of Jesus, defended the temple guard. When someone does not like you, he will attempt to recruit other people to join him in disliking you with a view of forming a team of people who hate you for no reason.
QUESTION
Can you be easily recruited and fooled into hating someone without finding out the truth?
PRAYER
Forgive me, dear Lord, for I hate many people because someone recruited me to do so. I sincerely repent today, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
