TEXT: NEHEMIAH 4:15-23
TOPIC: SLEEPING WITH A ONE EYE OPEN
Communities facing attacks will be very familiar with today’s topic, especially this part of the text which says “Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held weapon in another,” (vs. 17).
The situation became so desperate that they trusted God to fight for them. Even though those doing the work could not change their clothes, they were forced to carry their weapons even when they went for water.
Think about communities whose ancestral lands have been taken over by the bandits. Perhaps Nehemiah’s strategies need to be employed here.
QUESTION
Why must we sleep with one eye open today?
PRAYER
Father, we have slept so much that enemies have taken over our lands. Give us wisdom to take the right measures for the benefit of our future generations. Amen.
