TEXT: PSALM 13:1–6
TOPIC: LEADER, ATTACKING LEADER
Psalm 13 begins with a series of four uninterrupted rhetorical questions addressed directly to God by a frustrated and depressed David, who had been patiently praying and waiting for God to deliver him from the hands of King Saul, who was pursuing him with 3000 of the best soldiers in Israel. (I Samuel 26:2-23).
This is the background of Psalm 13 in which a rejected leader, Saul, was attacking an anointed leader – David.
David’s distressed heart reached its climax, and he could no longer hold his frustration and disappointment about what appeared to be God’s silence. But despite his frustration, David did not lose hope as he returns to God in prayer and affirmed his trust in His unfailing love.
The palmist ends with a promise to sing to the Lord, for He had been good to him.
Thurs, the psalm of the lamentation become one of thanksgiving.
