TEXT: NEHEMIAH 12:44-47
TOPIC: FAITHFUL STEWARD
The word ‘steward’ should not depart from our hearts and minds because of its importance. It refers to someone who manages or has been entrusted with the task of taking care of something.
In other words, it is someone who has been entrusted a responsibility of running a household or establishment based on trust. In fact, a steward is a manager.
This is what God demonstrated through the life of Nehemiah.
In Nehemiah’s time, there were men who were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms (vs. 44). They worked so faithfully that Judah was pleased with their ministry as priests and Levites.
They performed excellently well (vs. 45) and gave portions meant for the Levites and others daily without anyone complaining of embezzlement (vs. 47).
But today, in both the secular world and the church, palliatives meant to ease the pains of the poor have been hoarded and/or diverted and sold in markets, leaving the less privileged to suffer hunger and starvation.
The Master is asking for that faithful steward who is wise and willing to give meat to His household in due time (Matthew 24:45).
QUESTION
Do you know that, as a steward of God, you are called to be faithful in discharging your duties either in the church, market or your place of work?
PRAYER
O Lord, I am sorry for not living out the life of faithfulness as a steward. Help me to be faithful in the assignment You have committed into my hands wherever I find myself in Jesus’ name. Amen.
