TEXT: PSALM 26:1-12
TOPIC: DAVID’S DO’S AND DON’TS
After affirming his trust in the Lord, the psalmist boldly issued an invitation to God to test and try him and examine his heart and mind. It is amazing that he is prepared to open himself up to such probe and scrutiny.
Many of us cannot withstand the scrutiny of an ordinary Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO), not to talk of God. But where did the psalmist get the boldness to invite the all-knowing God for such an intimidating probe?
The answer has been provided by the preceding verses. David had do’s and don’ts, and with God’s help, he stuck to them tenaciously.
- He doesn’t sit with deceitful men
- He does not form alliances with the hypocrites
- He hates the cliques of evildoers and refuses to attend their clandestine meetings
- He leads a blameless life
- He stands on a level ground, etc.
The psalmist distances himself from the evildoers who midwifed corruption, conflict, and controversies into the communities of the children of God. He knows that such a company is contagious.
QUESTION
In what ways have you contributed in the mess that the church of Jesus Christ has found itself?
PRAYER
Dear Lord, I lack the courage to invite You into my heart for inspection because it is not clean. Please forgive me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
