ECWA Food for the Day – 18th July, 2025

FRIDAY, 18 JULY
TEXT: PSALM 18:16-29
TOPIC: HE RESCUED ME FROM A POWERFUL ENEMY

It is bad enough when someone hates you. But it is even worse if your enemies are powerful and can use their power to finish you.

That was the situation in which David found himself. He described his enemy as strong and hateful.

And even though he admitted that the enemy was too mighty for him, he was not too strong for God to vanquish.

Just as God came down to rescue His people from the powerful Egyptians (Exodus 3:7-8), be rest assured that He can still rescue you from the claws of the mighty; He is the power of the powerless.

If we can contextualise Exodus 3:7-8, it will read like this: “The LORD said, ‘I have indeed seen the state of great physical and mental distress of my people in Nigeria, Africa and the entire globe, I have heard them crying out because of their corrupt leaders, and I am concerned about their suffering, so I have come down to rescue them from the hands of their corrupt politicians.'”

Note, however, that the Psalmist gives reasons for the rescue: “because the LORD delighted in me” (18:19). So, there is a price tag for divine intervention.

QUESTION

Have you ever used your power to remove food from someone’s mouth for no justifiable reason?

PRAYER

Thank you, dear Lord, for being the power of the powerless and the defender of the widows and orphans.
